Choosing where to save recovered files

Recovered files are saved to a folder on your computer or another drive. The app won't save them to the card you are recovering from.

By default, files are saved to a new folder in your Pictures folder called Recovered from followed by the card's name. Where the original folders are known, they are recreated inside it.

On Windows, this is your own Pictures folder, including when OneDrive looks after it.

To choose a different folder

  1. Find Save recovered files toIt is shown before you recover, with the folder and how much free space it has.
  2. Click it and choose a folderAny folder on your computer or on another drive works.
  3. Check there is roomMake sure the free space shown is more than the size of the files you are recovering.

Why you can't save back to the card

Saving anything to the card can overwrite the deleted files you are trying to get back. So the app refuses: if you choose a folder on the same drive, it asks you to choose one on a different drive.

Finding them later

When recovery finishes, click Show in Finder (Show in File Explorer on Windows). Past recoveries are also listed in the app, so you can open their folders again later.
