You don't have to choose. When you click Start Scan, Data Recovery Pro runs the quick scan first and then the deep scan.
| Quick scan | Deep scan | |
|---|---|---|
| What it reads | The card's file table, looking for deleted entries. | Every block on the card, looking for the start of known file types. |
| Works on | FAT16, FAT32 and exFAT, the formats cameras and most cards use. | Any format, and cards whose file table is damaged or was replaced by a format. |
| File types | Any type of file. | More than 60 formats, including JPEG, HEIC and most camera RAW, MP4, MOV, AVCHD and MKV, MP3, WAV and FLAC, PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and ZIP. Not plain text or CSV. Full list. |
| Names and folders | Kept. | Lost. See why names go missing. |
| Speed | Usually seconds. | Depends on the card's size and the reader. See the scan is slow. |
In the results, files are marked “Quick scan, original name kept” or “Deep scan, original name lost”. When both scans find the same photo, you see it once.
Stopping early
You can stop the scan at any time and review what it has found so far. If you scan the same card again later, it picks up where it stopped.
