Your card doesn't appear on your Mac

Cards appear as soon as your Mac sees them. If yours doesn't, check the connection and look for it in Disk Utility.

On Windows, see your card doesn't appear on Windows.

Data Recovery Pro lists a card or drive as soon as macOS sees it. If the list says “No external drives found”, work through these steps.

  1. Check the connectionPush the card fully into the slot or reader. If you use a microSD adapter, make sure the card is seated in it. Connect the reader directly to the Mac rather than through a hub.
  2. Try another port or readerCard readers fail more often than cards. A different reader or port is the quickest test.
  3. Look in Disk UtilityOpen Disk Utility (in Applications › Utilities) and choose View › Show All Devices. If the card is listed there, it should also appear in Data Recovery Pro. If it is not listed there, your Mac cannot see the card, and no app can read it.
  4. Click Ignore on any “not readable” messageA card that macOS can't read still appears in Data Recovery Pro. More about that message.

Other things to know

  • The lock switch on the side of an SD card does not matter. Data Recovery Pro only reads.
  • The Mac's own internal drive cannot be scanned in this version, so choosing This Mac shows a message instead of a scan.
  • If Disk Utility shows the card with a size of 0 bytes or a size far from what is printed on it, the card's hardware may be failing. A data recovery lab is the safer choice.

If it still doesn't appear, contact support with your Mac model, macOS version and the make of the card reader.
